Gordian
Relevant and targeted ancillary upsell.
We need a Strategy
Gordian is a Y Combinator startup that sells ancillary services to Online Travel Agencies (eg SkyScanner, Hopper, etc) through an API. The seat selection their most recognizable product; however, sometimes Gordian may not be able to load the seat map because they don't have the information from the airline.
Capturing lost revenue
There were two issues presented with the current unavailable seat map page that was being shown to users:
- It was lackluster and unbranded, thereby confusing the user and causing page exit/reload
- It was not optimized to upsell seats that Gordian could eventually capitalize on when they get the seat map from the airline
An enticingly simple ux + ui solution
I played around with different layouts and placements of the elements in order to create a flow that was visually easy to understand, since this is a point of upselling an additional service to a user who has already commited to buying a plane ticket. The designs had to:
- Fit seamlessly in Gordian's current seat map flow
- Clearly showcase the products we want to upsell (paid)
- Strategically minimize the products we don't want to upsell (free)
